Dr Charles Karl is currently Chief Technology Leader in the Future Technology Group. He is responsible for the technical oversight of ARRB activities nationally in road network operations, freight and heavy vehicles. He is also co-technical lead for the Australian Driverless Vehicles Initiative (ADVI) since its establishment in 2014. Charles was the Technical Lead for the Volvo XC90 driverless vehicle demonstration in Adelaide, 2015, Eastlink AV trials 2016-2018, La Trobe University Autonobus trial, 2017 and Yarra Trams CITS priority trial 2016-2019. From 2003 to 2007, Charles was Principal Engineer in ARRB’s Network Operations team based in Melbourne. At that time, his work involved studies in traffic data fusion, travel time modelling, network performance monitoring, incident management, telematics and traveller information.
